How do I know which question type to use?

To determine which question type to use on your survey, please refer to the examples below.
 

  1. Multiple Choice (Only One Answer)

    This type of question will allow the respondent to select one answer choice. This question can be formatted horizontally, as multiple columns, or as a drop down menu.





  2. Multiple Choice (Multiple Answers)

    This question type will allow respondents to select one or more answer choices. This question can be formatted horizontally, or as multiple columns.





  3. Comment/Essay Box

    This question can be used to gather a large open ended text response.





  4. Ranking

    This question type allows respondents to rank items, in order of preference, by selecting a numeric value for each answer choice.





  5. Matrix of Choices (Only One Answer per Row)

    This question type allows the respondent to rate several different aspects of a particular question. The question and rating scale appears at the top and then each aspect of the question appears below, as separate rows.





  6. Matrix of Choices (Multiple Answers per Row)

    This question type is similar to the previous question, however this allows the respondent to select multiple answer choices.





  7. Matrix of Textboxes

    This question type allows the respondent to enter an open ended answer for each row and column.





  8. Matrix of Drop Down Menus

    With this question users can select their answers from drop down menus, displayed in rows and columns.





  9. Single Textbox

    This is a question that allows a short open ended answer.





  10. Multiple Textboxes

    This question type that allows the respondent to provide multiple open ended answers.





  11. Descriptive Text

    This question type allows the person designing the survey to add content to the survey, which doesn't require an answer from the respondent. This can be useful for welcome pages, consent forms, etc.





  12. Date/Time Box

    This question allows the respondent to enter a date and/or time as a response.





  13. Net Promoter Score®

    This question type allows respondents to answer on a 0-10 point rating scale. (For more information on how to use this question type, please click here.)





  14. File Upload

    This question type allows the respondent to upload, or attach files as part of their survey response.





  15. Continuous Sum

    This question type allows the respondent to enter numerical values, which are automatically summated, to provide a total for the question.





  16. Slider Scale

    This is an interactive question type, which allows the respondent to answer the question by moving a slider along a scale.





  17. Semantic Differential

    This question type allows the respondent to answer a rating scale, which includes bi-polar adjectives on the scale.
